Neelum – the mother of all valleys – is perhaps the only place to see native Kashmiri civilization.
The homes and villages around Neelum river are unique in their style. This part of Kashmir is also home to few of the most beautiful lakes in world.
The entire valley is located on Line of Control. At several points distance between Pakistan and Indian Kashmir shrinks to zero.
Popular places in Neelum are: Keran, Upper Neelum Village, Sharda (remnants of an ancient university are also found in Sharda), Kel, Arrang Kel, Taobat.
Popular lakes of Neelum are: Ratti Gali, Chitta Katha, Shounter. Access to lakes is not easy and require tough trekking.
All the villages of Neelum Valley are way too beautiful and take you away from the nature-less life of cities.
Around the route you see the GORJARS also called GUJJARS who are indigenous sheep and cattle grazers. They live high in the mountains and keep on traveling most part of the year with their herds. The presence of their sheep in mountains, meadows and lake enhance the natural beauty of the place.
